I’d Like To Keep A Secret

Glancing over from across the room
I can see your smile light up like the moon,
sharing the light for those in their darkest hours -
or convincing others of love within meteor showers.

I’ll stand and and start a conversation,
you’ll walk and stray just inside the formation.
Follow all the rules, and remember - remember,
how you’ve made my emotions lose.

Knock it off, my thoughts will say -
not to you, but throwing everything my way.
It’s not what you’ve done or said that changes things,
it’s everything you didn’t say that sways such a balance.

Like a list full of lockets, or hearts drawn up like flies -
you’ll gather your belongings and pack them away from prying eyes.
Along with your heart and your emotions too,
It’s your smile you want to be known for, not such silly things.

I’d love to say I would wait for you,
to unpack those commodities and change - 
but doing so would be like dancing in the dry months
and waiting for the rain.
